It's beach-blanket Rasta as dozens of top reggae and dancehall artists perform five nights of outdoor concerts. This is the hands-down mother of island reggae happenings, a huge festival with a long tradition of starting late and mobbing steady.

At Sunsplash, you can experience a heaping helping of the good times/protest music that sprang from African roots through the Trenchtown ghetto and finally into the world's hearts. The musical vibes continue until sunrise most nights, and the program goes well beyond reggae. Wednesday night kicks off the event with a big beach party, Other theme nights include Reggae-Rock Night (Friday), Roots Night (Saturday), and Gospel Night (Sunday). Thursday night is always Dancehall Night, when well over 40,000 people, mostly Jamaicans, pack in to see local superstars.•
